Why Unwritten

This is not another retreat.

There are extraordinary places for women to rest, restore, learn, lead, network, and grow. Unwritten by Design exists for something different.

We are built around the moments when life is changing and the person you have been may not be exactly the person you need or want to be next.

  • Starting your first job.
  • Becoming a mother.
  • Choosing not to become one.
  • Going through menopause.
  • Getting divorced.
  • Losing a parent.
  • Getting fired.
  • Starting over.
  • Moving from middle management to senior management.
  • Becoming an executive.
  • Becoming a CEO.
  • Leaving a career.
  • Caring for someone you love.
  • Facing an empty nest.
  • Realizing that what once worked for you no longer does.

We do not separate the personal from the professional because life does not work that way. And we do not believe transition is something that only happens at a certain age or level of success.

What makes Unwritten different

It is an immersion, not a retreat.

Rest and renewal may happen here, but they are not the destination. You come to Unwritten to engage deeply with where you are, what is changing, and what you want to create next.

It is about life transition, not career development.

Your career may be part of your transition. It may even be the catalyst. But we are interested in the whole woman and the many identities, relationships, experiences, ambitions, losses, and possibilities that shape her life.

It is intergenerational by design.

We do not believe the only people who can help you are people who look like you, are your age, or have your title. A 28 year old and a 62 year old may be navigating very different transitions and still have something profound to offer one another. Wisdom moves in every direction.

It is grounded in science, not simply inspiration.

Unwritten draws on the science of behavior change, human connection, social support, reflection, goal setting, and action. We want women to understand not only what they want to change, but what helps change actually happen and last.

It is driven by the women in the room, not by gurus.

There will be expertise, facilitation, tools, and structure. But we do not believe someone standing at the front of the room has the answer to another woman's life. The lived experience in the room is part of the curriculum.

It produces something tangible.

You will not leave only with memories, inspiration, or a notebook full of ideas. You will leave with greater clarity about the transition you are navigating, a picture of what you want next, specific commitments and first actions, an understanding of what may get in your way, and a plan for continuing forward.

It builds your Sphere, not simply your network.

Networking asks, who do I know? Your Sphere asks something much more important: who do I need around me for the life I am building? Women who challenge you. Women who have gone before you. Women who see something in you that you cannot yet see. Women who make introductions. Women who hold you accountable. Women you can call when the plan falls apart. And just as importantly, whose Sphere will you become part of?

It does not end when you go home.

Transition does not happen in three days. The immersion creates the conditions for change. What follows is where change becomes real. Your Sphere, commitments, continued connection, accountability, and opportunities to return to the Unwritten community are designed to help you keep moving long after the immersion ends.

The difference

A wellness retreat may ask

How can I feel better?

A leadership program may ask

How can I become a better leader?

A professional network may ask

Who should I know?

An executive institute may ask

What kind of leader do I want to be?

Unwritten asks something different

I am in the middle of change. Who am I becoming, what do I want to design next, and who do I need around me to help me get there?

That is Unwritten by Design.

What we protect as we build

Five commitments we will not drift from.

I

Whole life transition

Career is an entry point, not the category. We work with the whole of a life in motion, personal and professional together, because life does not separate them.

II

Intergenerational by design

Many communities group women by title, stage, or circumstance. Our premise is almost the opposite: different stages create the value.

III

Science plus lived experience

Not therapy, not coaching, not a motivational weekend. What we know about behavior change and connection, combined with the expertise women carry into the room themselves.

IV

The Sphere

The immersion is more than the days you spend together. Part of the immersion is deliberately helping each woman build the human infrastructure she needs around her.

V

Measurable movement

We measure whether the experience creates meaningful movement, including changes in clarity, agency, connection, readiness, and action, and whether that movement continues after women go home. For companies, that turns a nice experience into an evidence-informed investment in transition, retention, resilience, and forward movement.

Unwritten by Design is not about getting away from your life. It is about deciding how you want to move into what comes next.
